"A Room with a View" is a british drama movie by James Ivory. This movie is about a young English movie name Lucy Honeychurch that makes her first visit to Florence, Italy in the early 1900's. She meets a young man named George Emerson and must decide whether to follow through with her marriage in England or follow her heart and her attraction to George. This movie presents the differences in social classes in that period. Lucy faces the situation of having to decide if she should live a pleasant but unhappy life following society's rules or to break free from the expectations of society and norms with choosing her happiness. Everyone in their life will have similar decisions that will be between choosing what's right for society or choosing what's right for you. We are divided in the social classes and not everyone has the free will to choose their way of life.
Society expect us to be good, to follow the norms, and to live up to what they teach since we're born. We have little say in what we should have because we have to follow what everyone else won't criticize. Most of the time, we choose the easy path, we prefer to do what other people tell us is right instead of following our dreams and what we really want. This is the problem with society, if you're from a high social class you are expected to be even more, so this makes those people many times be unhappy. People want to fit in these social classes so they do everything in their power to please everyone except themselves.
I deeply believe that when you said that "society expect us to be good, to follow the norms, and to live up to what they teach since we're born" you summarised the plot of the film, and also the main character's perception of the world.
